Narrative
JACKSONVILLE, FL – A woman was taken to Jacksonville Memorial Hospital, where she later died after she was hit by two vehicles Monday.
Police responded to the crash site — which happened in the area of Dunlap Court and West College Avenue — before 5:30 p.m. They confirmed that a 21-year-old man, a Jacksonville resident, was operating a car when he failed to yield the right of way to the woman who was crossing an intersection. The unidentified man hit her.
Then, after the initial crash, another motorist, traveling behind the 21-year-old, tried to avoid the collision debris but ended up hitting the woman. The second driver remained at the scene, while the 21-year-old left the crash site to call 911 and returned momentarily.
Police charged the 21-year-old with “failure to yield the right-of-way to pedestrian at crosswalk and operating an uninsured vehicle.” No arrests have been announced at this time.
The woman’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
