Narrative
ANTIOCH, IL – Five people went to the hospital Friday from injuries sustained in a chain-reaction collision involving five vehicles in northwest Lake County.
The accident happened on the westbound side of Route 173 near US-45, which is on the eastern outskirts of Antioch.
Police say that a westbound Ford F-550 hauling an excavator caused the chain-reaction crash when it rear-ended a Nissan Versa. From there, a Volkswagen Atlas and a Chevy Silverado were also involved in rear-end collisions, and the Chevy sideswiped a Kia F5.
Medics airlifted a passenger from the Nissan to the hospital with critical injuries.
Two others from the Nissan went to the hospital with non-critical injuries, as did the drivers of the Volkswagen and the Ford.
It’s unclear if anyone in the Chevy or the Kia sustained injuries.
A full investigation is underway.
