COLES COUNTY, IL – An 81-year-old man succumbed to his injuries and died after a three-vehicle crash in Des Plaines Tuesday.
The collision occurred on Route 45 before 3 pm.
The 81-year-old man, Gary Phillips, wanted to pass a tractor hauling grain wagons in a no-pass lane.
Phillps saw another car coming head-on and then put the vehicle in reserve to get to his lane. As a result, he hit the tractor tire.
It is unclear if the tractor driver and the driver of the other vehicle were injured.
Phillips was taken to a hospital, where he died.
